the titles are considered a right of being noble. When you appoint 
someone to a position, it is their's. You can't just take it back, as
 it 
belongs to them, it becomes their birthright, their hereditary 
property. (Kind of like you can't "unbake a cake". Once you do it, 
it just can't be undone.)

Which should mean that in game every other member of your character family should have a claim on a region that was once "yours".  If my character is killed (deleted) then my new character should have a claim, however small, to the region for as long as he lives as well.

The problem is that this is continually exploited similarly by those that lose a character and bring another right back to the same realm and get positions quickly.

If we're going to say that lordships are hereditary in game, then we need to stop complaining that subsequent family members get positions when they are "new" to the realm....or allow characters to be killed much easier.

I'd imagine a few good wars could be started since most regions would have a few claims on them and if a neighboring realm had a character that wanted to assert the claim and bring the region into the other realm, you have a reason.
