the titles are considered a right of being noble. When you appoint 
someone to a position, it is their's. You can't just take it back, as it 
belongs to them, it becomes their birthright, their hereditary 
property. (Kind of like you can't "unbake a cake". Once you do it, 
it just can't be undone.)
