That's not really the same. General's wouldn't be able to tell you to buy
spears, in the same way they can't tell you what type of troops to buy. And
yes, you can choose not to comply with the troop setting laid out, unless of
course you're part of the marshal settings. And why would you? It's not
really the kind of thing most people do because it hampers realm and region
progression, which is all very well if you're against the realm or region
you're part of, but if you just want a bit more resposibility, it's not
exactly what you'd consider doing.
Like I said, not everyone in BM is the kind of person who seizes initiative
and makes a name for themselves straight away, I wasn't. I've had a lot of
friends play this game who got bored and quit because there wasn't enough
for them to do. They weren't outspoken like a lot of people on this list
are, and I think if we want BM to spread, then we have to cater for the
shyer gamers. We can't just say 'speak up and cause trouble', because that's
not the kind of player they are.
I feel we have to give them extra things that they can do to affect the
realm, things that are obvious, because when you join, you are not always
aware that together you can have a large impact on things, because it's
never really explained. When I started I was in awe of these rulers with
hundreds of days in the game, and immediately presumed, correctly, they knew
more than me. But this also meant I never realised that I could have this
kind of large scale impact on the game. The only things I saw that I could
do was move around, message people, and buy troops, basically. It's changed
now of course, but the essence remains the same. There's not a lot of things
to keep the small guys entertained when things are slack, or to make them
feel valuable. Then we risk losing them.
