I must say Vinnie, you've convinced me. Hell, even if someone *is* appointed
by the ruler, it could still be contested (especially if the realm is not
stable internally), so why would using this feature give him any special
protection?
Game machanics should be changed, wether the fraud is detected or not should
*not* be up to some random code. Give the feature a near-100% success rate,
but allow nobles to challenge it. If he had the proper support, his fraud
will pass and he will keep his position, if he doesn't, his fraud will be
detected and he won't. That's turning game machanics to human interaction,
which aside from being more fun, also make more sense.
To reference hereditary claims here yet deny them everywhere else simply
makes the game inconsistent and leads for confusing RP. Hereditary claims do
not need in-game codes to enforce them, they simply need the right nobles to
embrace them. While saying "I had a relative who was lord here" would be
enough in most (or any?) realms to have that person appointed, it adds
weight to his claim, and if he has sufficient other reasons supporting his
appointment, it might just be enough to make him lord. As it should be, no
code needed.
