I don't use hotmail for this - I use Outlook Express and view things in
proper newsgroup format. Much better ;-)
And yes, I have a hotmail address. *goes red with embarrassment* I have
taken a new view of things since I was little. I was brought up on Acorn
computers because they were miles better than Windows PCs and even a little
better than Apple. As a consequence, everything I did on the computer back
then is now on disks I can't read with my new computer, in formats I can't
convert from, and for years, I couldn't play any decent games because they
were all PC format and not Acorn format.
My Dad got a Video 2000 video recorder because it was miles better than
either Betamax or VHS. As a result, we have some great videos at home that
are of a quality comparable to SVHS from a time long before SVHS had been
invented. The downside is the only way I can view them is to use the one
Video 2000 player that's in my Dad's loft.
Hotmail may be made by crappy MSN, and there will be far better options out
there... But I've been able to use it for over ten years for free without it
becoming out-of-date, it's nicely compatible with MSN Messenger etc, and for
that, I love it!
So, I'm going to let others follow the way of goodness, and just sit
happily, compatibly and stress-free until MSN/Windows/etc do what they
always do - wait four years and then copy. The lowered stress from not
trying to convince everyone else to use Acorn computers and avoid AOL is
similar to the lowered stress gained by ceasing to complain every time
someone says "different than" or "there were less cars" or "I told her to of
maybe not done that since its not like I was running over their". The bliss
of being able merely to roll one's eye's and continue reading instead of
having to get up, swear loudly and have a cup of tea to recover...!
Respect to you for having a good e-mail account, and probably a better
computer and so on - thanks to you, small companies will stay in profit as
they design good things, and I can benefit four years later when their good
things are adopted by my crummy but popular choices ;-D
