It's Hotmail messing you up.

Get a real mail client.  Thunderbird is good at handling threads.   
Apple's Mail.app, which I use, is great, but (naturally) requires  
that you buy a Mac.  Which I would recommend anyway, but that's  
beside the point ;-)

Oh, and while you're at it, get a real email address :-)  GMail is  
free, and you don't need to be invited now...
