 At one point, it was a requirement to be on the RP list.  And the vast
majority of all communications was done through there.  Remember, for
months, there was little more than a map for us to stare at, with no way for
us to even get our characters there in-game.  It was easy (though decidedly
unrealistic :> ) to send messages to anyone via the RP list.
