[Discuss] Is Fun Dead? End of RP

Rania,

You see a lack of RP when I see quite the opposite. It is precisely because
people stick to their characters and to the story coherence that they act
that way. Having people forgive Avamarians and just suddenly become friends
with them simply does not fit the storyline in any way.

> This game is supposed to be fun for everyone. And in the past all those

The fun is in playing your part, in expressing your character's perceptions
and feelings about it, in deciding what to do and observe the
consequences. If your fun is spoiled by other people playing their part
accurately, it is not them who are ruining your fun, but simply that you
can't find fun easily.

You know, the problem (in the EC mainly.) in this is that there is a strong
> alliance here that spoils the fun of everybody else.

They have not ruin *my* fun. So you cannot say "everybody else".

I am not talking only about Kalmar (You can't imagine what crap I have heard
> both IC and OOC) but also about LoF which for its own good should find an
> available strong ally, otherwise it will be destroyed by the usual suspects.

Being destroyed is part of the game, and will be part of the history of EC,
and part of the fun.

> What I see, in the Continents, is five realms and few players having taken
> the continents' diplomacy as their private monopoly, deciding who will be

That is your perception. Not everyone shares it. I know the rulers RP as
much as they can.

(I was a Ruler and I know. You can't imagine what replies the rulers give. a
> plain "yes" or "no" ,"you will die" without a justification, as a reply to a
> very solid, good RP letter)

It is not that the players are ignoring what you write, but rather, that to
them your character is not trust worthy and her letters are not worth
reading. So they are roleplaying, and they are replying in character. Why
would they want to write a long letter to someone who is only lying and
spreading propaganda to save a realm?

> Should be there something to prevent such monopolies from the game? Things

I believe the same code applies to everything in the game. The penalties
are still there.

Maybe there should be a limit to the difference of the attackers and the
> defenders strength or something to prevent such rediculous incidents in the

Again, if you are not having fun, it's not the other players' fault. If you
don't like being in the losing end of a war, change.

And it's not fun at all to play in realms knowing that they will be
> destroyed by 5 other realms that make up excuses or not bother to even find
> an excuse to attack and destroy you. It was fun RP at first, but then,
> everyone playing in these realms are out of RPing!

Or maybe you're just not receiving their RPs because you are not in their
recipient list. Just because you are not a member of one realm does not
mean their players do not RP within it. Maybe it is not what you want, but
it is what other players have chosen and been able to write and do.

And allow me to speak also for Ubent which is a realm that survives only
> because the other 5 don't care (yet) about it, having imposed upon it a
> limit of 5K CS.
> And you might ask, why does Ubent don't resist? Because the players know
> that if they grow bigger than 5k cs, they will be history in a month.

Maybe it's not the players only, but their characters. Characters make
choices, and some can greatly change the situation in the whole island.

Three. Avamar Selective, Kalmar Islands and Light of Fountain. All three are
> this close to being destroyed. The conclusions are yours to make....

My conclusion: poor choices lead to a poor future. If your goal is to
survive then you shall make the choices that lead you to it. And even then,
you depend on the choices of other people, too. You cannnot know what the
result will be. Discovering it is where the fun lies.

And that's not fun. Not fun at all.

Your failure to find fun does not mean something is not fun.

For about 200 players that do not have characters in the 5 strong realms.

Again, their choice.

And between you and me, RP is dead in EC.

It isn't.
