In order for there to be true separation on the level suggested on a forum
requires all forum participants to adhere strictly to the rules, and moderators
that are active enough to zealously enforce the rules.

What normally happens on a forum is that you end up with a small amount of
sanitary discussions in one area, and another area that is basically "anything
goes".

And lets not forget the profusion of "FIRST POST!" and "+1 postcount!" type
posts. And the graphical signatures that make your eyes bleed...

And while, yes, the old forum threads are theoretically available forever, in
practice it doesn't work this way. They generally scroll off the first page within a
few days or weeks, and are almost enver referenced again.

Now forums usually have search functions to help you find things. And Tom has
acknowledged that the BattleMaster DList would be of much greater use if it
had a good search function. But his requests to this list for help finding suitable
software that would work with his existing mail server and list server software
went unanswered.

Until then, you can use Google to search the lists for various things.
