So your character is elected banker and he no longer has a liege?  His
estates which he spent money on enlarging are no longer there?  Then next
month someone else gets elected and he has to start all over again?  

There is enough turnover in the game, and I thought that this was to be
encouraged, that characters losing their oaths when they're elected or
appointed to a gov't position is going to be a real hassle (except for the
ruler for which an oath really makes no sense).
