[Discuss] Installing a ruler in a conquered realm

If you wanted a true puppet nation, you could create a new diplomatic state
called 'satellite'/'overlord'.  This could be forced via a capital TO or
some such like the earlier ideas, and create an unwilling federation.

The mother realm would control the satellite's diplomacy at the least, but
possibly other things.

There's obviously a lot of neat possibilities on how to break away from a
mother nation...

just my 2 cents.
