I'd agree (and in fact I thought of this) but there's never an
announcement when someone gets honor or prestige; they just do, by
word of mouth. There's an understanding that a lot of petty NPC
nobles are involved, people who can be easily fooled, and PCs in
other realms. In other words, no, there would be no notification to
other nobles unless the attempt failed and the fellow got caught.
And the fact is, I've never seen anyone ever look at a battle report
to check and see if someone who claimed to be there really was (in
later discussion or on the wiki). I'm sure it has happened, but it's
pretty rare -- and that rarity, I think, is encapsulated in the
ability to fail automatically.

This is also workable. Maybe an ability to publicize one's actual
deeds would be interesting as well.
