Yes, one message would have to be delivered direct, but that doesn't mean it
has to be signed. It's perfectly logical and realistic to be able to send
anonymous letters. And the sender and recipient could be in the same realm,
or not.
And your point about people not betraying their realm to an unknown person
is a rather shaky criticism.
Firstly, the messages don't neccesarily have to be asking for betrayal. It
could simply be a death threat, or maybe a message alerting the recipient to
an activity happening currently, which the sender does not want to be
identified with. That's perfectly normal, people alerting the RL police to
crimes are given anonymity, so it's not unrealistic to extend that same
mentality to BM.
Also, the decision to send an anonymous letter is the decision of the
sender, not you. You might not see why someone would betray their country to
an unknown person, or the purpose of the message, but the sender might, or
be willing to take the risk of sending it. And Lyman is right, people are
more likely to confess to strangers than to people they know. You don't have
a reputation at stake with a stranger, or friendship, so there is less to be
ashamed of so to speak. It's the reason confessions in churches are usually
anonymous.
If you don't see the point of the option to send anonymous letters, then you
wouldn't have to send them, but there are those who would use it. I know I
would, and I am sure other people would like to explore the possibilities of
being able to speak their mind to someone, or insult someone, or betray
someone, without letting their identity be known.
