Whoever said you had to be afraid of it?

Like Tom said, you don't even have to believe in a God--you can make  
a religion around worship of nature spirits, demons, whatever you like.

You don't even have to *worship* said spirits, Gods, or whatever.   
You just have to *believe* in them--there's a big difference.

One of my characters isn't quite there yet, but if she keeps going  
the way she's going now, she's likely to end up cursing her Goddess  
and turning her face from her.  She'll still *believe* in her--but  
she will neither fear nor serve her.

Just because the Judeo-Christian religions are (at some level) based  
on "fear of a superior being" doesn't mean that's all religion can be.
