In paperwork, you can set what to do
if your troop meets foreign troops,
but what you set,
also reflects how your troop will 'act' in battle.
If the encounter reaction
and battle stance are separated,
it will be possible to add lots of usefull
(and groovy) new battle 'behaviours'.
I will give you some quick ideas:
-Stand ground:
Troop will remain in its position
and never budge,
nomatter what happens.
-Blockade: (only INF and MI)
Like stand ground,
But troop will make it harder for enemy troops
to enter a melee on their 'row'.
Combat effectiveness of a blockading troop
will be 1/4 of normal.
-Fierce Attack:
Troop will always seek/move forward
if it is not doing anything to help out.
(even if it means moving into melee with archers)
-Attack in line/row:
Troop will only move forward
if other troops do aswell,
or if there are troops in front.
This also means it will wait up for other troops
before advancing.
A cavalry troop will not advance,
unless another cavalry or infantry troop does aswell.
I know some behaviours are only relevant
for when defending,
so I propose 2 different 'behaviour' selections.
One for when defending,
and the other for when attacking.
That would also allow wild ideas like:
-Flank: (special open field attack for cavalry)
Troop will go around first enemy row
and charge the row behind it.
You can probably come up with better ideas than these tho'
I am aware that some of these behaviours can be exploited,
but note that they are just quick ideas.
