I prefer to list 'effective or relative time', based on elections. You have
to have an election every 30 days. In the real world different nations have
different mandatory election times but for simplicity I use my nation which
equals 5 years. So 30 days = 5 years. Now some people will shout "That's
silly!" but that's why I call it 'effective or relative time', it's not how
much time passes, just how much it feels like has passed.
The system works surprisingly well when you compair stuff like wars, monster
invasions and the rebulding phase actually.... you get wars lasting over
years after a build up of decades, monster invasions lasting decades giving
anyone time to try an annialate humanity, and the recovery phase where
beluaterra rebulids takes a life time or two.
The long time scale fits the epic events that occure, but does have its
snags... like that means even the youngest characters are possibly hundreds
of years old. Course characters are also able to heal nearly any injury and
enjoy some immortality so living forever doesn't seem too impossible ;)
Still since a day RL = a day BM this theory of mine is pritty much out the
window on explaining small scale.... (Now I know what it must have felt like
when quantum mechanics was invented)
