Indeed, and I believe I have used copper and silver pieces in  
roleplay before as smaller amounts used to pay for services.  They're  
enough less than a gold piece that it's not unreasonable to assume a  
noble would have quite a lot of them, but they couldn't really be  
used for much that you need gold for.
