A system of transfering actual gold coins might work if it was
heavilly restricted. You can only give out one gold coin a turn - such
a rate is pretty much useless for non-RP purposes (I guess if you
happened to be one gold short of being able to pay your men it would
be good, but that's about all I can think of), but would be plenty for
giving a little more substance to RPs.
