I would agree, Josh, but which feudal tradition are you referring to? I 
can't think of any instance where a Western European monarch was removed 
from the throne, whether by legitimately stepping down or being forced out, 
and received any special legal protection. They certainly had quite a lot of 
social protection, but let's look at the list:

Harold II & the Norman invasion of England
Richard II (deposed by Henry IV, imprisoned and later probably assassinated)
Charles I and the English Civil War
Henry IV of the HRE, forced to abdicate by Henry V

Harold II might belong in a different category because that was a case of 
foreign invasion, but the other three were all (more or less) 'protested out 
of office' in some shape or form, some with a little more military action 
than others, and -- if anything -- their royal status made their predicament 
worse and not better.
