Then either take your unit with you, disband them, or drop them as
militia. Yes, it might end up costing you some gold, but if it's a
long journey, you'll save a lot in wages so it won't cost much. It's
more realistic that way, anyway. You can't just go off and leave your
unit - if they're needed to defend somewhere, then that's exactly what
militia is meant for, otherwise you can take them with you.

RPing NPCs that are in a different region to your character is a
little tricky. The RP email list would work, as would my suggestion
for an instant message type for RPs that aren't actions your character
is making this turn.
