The Duke has excellent IC reasons to secede.  The OOC reasons were  
suggested by someone else entirely (I'm not even sure he's *in* the  
duchy).

Also, if the secession were to happen, I can tell you with absolute  
certainty that the ruler would be very upset.  He strongly believes  
in a united realm as both the best way to win the war, and part of  
the point of fighting it in the first place.

However, as long as the war continued, unless the new realm were very  
rude to him, he would, in all likelihood, work with them to defeat  
their common enemy--he's not stupid, after all.  Afterwards...he  
would have to deal with afterwards.

(And yes, I *do* play said ruler)
