It was Tom, and many of us agree.  Top-posting as the norm is a  
completely nonsensical concept, pushed on us by none other than the  
good folks at Microsoft, with the virus-propagation tool known as  
Outlook (oh, I heard it has an email reader, too, but that might just  
be a rumour).

Just because it's become commonplace doesn't mean that it makes any  
sense, or that we should continue to propagate it.

Top posting is one of the things absolutely guaranteed to get your  
post rejected from the moderated list, as well.

It's common courtesy, as is not top-posting, and trimming the post  
you're replying to to just the essential parts--as I am demonstrating.

I was once on a mailing list where I was in digest mode, and others  
in digest mode regularly quoted the entire digest in their posts--and  
then replied to them, quoting the entire digest TWICE...and then  
replied to that, quoting it AGAIN...I don't recall what the maximum  
number of digests quoted was, but it was truly horrendous.  It took  
us months to break people of that.

However, I haven't seen it happen there in a couple of years now,  
which gives me at least *some* hope for the human race...
