Lyman, you *cannot* simply extrapolate from yourself to the world. I
think it's even a classic logical fallacy. Even if you don't have a
mental disorder, that doesn't mean that the ability to separate
knowledge and personalities is something "an average person" has.

Everyone's mind is different. We all have certain things we *can*
do, and certain things we *can't*. I, for instance, cannot visualize
4-dimensional space, though I have met people who can. When I try, I
just get a headache. However, I *can* run through an array of
different solutions to various kinds of problems (primarily
technological, as that's my area of expertise, but given some general
knowledge in another field, I can do the same there) pretty quickly.
Most other people I know can't do that.

Similarly, most other people I know can't compartmentalize themselves
to the degree that I can with my characters. My family can, but that
just means my brother and sister and I either inherited or learned it
at a very young age from my parents.

Just because you and I can separate knowledge doesn't mean that the
majority of people playing this game can. I've seen people who were
utterly unable to even grasp the concept of separation of characters.

The restriction is to protect the whole game from the people who
*aren't* like us. Those who are, can find other, less visible means
of gaining power.
