The same thing happened on my computer. I tried re-installing it and that didn't fix it. I then tried un-installing firefox and then installing it afresh. That fixed the problem. I still don't know what the problem was. The symptoms were that it pinned the CPU when it said "reading from xxx..." I hope the un+re-install works for you.
