Yes Lyman, no doubt, but I too am an arguer. It's not the debating
that's the problem, it's the heat - the subject and context. I've seen
a lot of silly nitpicking debates over nothing in which there get to
be personal attacks and personal melodramas... the kind of intense
rivalry that no one needs out-of-character, on a discussion list. Cuz
then it's not discussion about the game, but rather about how
so-and-so said such-and-such and how come that makes them a bad
person. It becomes about the arguers themselves instead of the game.
That just hampers enjoyment and constructiveness. I get perverse
enjoyment from politics and intrigue, but that kind of thing taken to
the levels I've seen on this list, just looks more like flamewars and
boring personal melodramas. Leaves me dry, anyway. There's more than
enough politics, intrigue, verbal maulings of oppnents and ideologies
etc in-game, in-character.
