Actually I have something to add about that line.... Striving for evil
seems to get you in less trouble than being good. I'm the first to
admit that a comparative study of only 3 samples is hardly
statistically viable but my findings are as follows:

Be mind numbingly good, honourable, honest, etc. no matter what =
hunted and despised by many, but eventually appreceated and rewarded
(followed by horrible death)

Be mostly good noble etc. but pragmatic = be hunted, and appreceated
when you keep the same 'noble ideals' as the local athorities (on the
run alot now that I think about it)

Be absolutly fundamentally evil, murder random people and lie
constantly, etc. no matter what = promoted to highest office within a
few weeks.

This happened to me with three seperate characters over the course of
a about 3 years.... give or take. As I said, it's hardly conclusive
'proof', but I found it slightly depressing with how easy it was to
get ahead as evil.
