Elections were quite common. remember, the electors are the nobles,
which are like 1% of the population. Even some Roman Caesers were
chosen by the senate this way.
I would institute a 'regent' or 'chamberlain' position in the game, to
act during a king's serious wounds if you wanted to make this issue
more realistic.
