You don't seem to have grasped the fact that "Not doing X will hurt the
region" basically means, for most people, "We must do X". Thus, it
*would* require more knights.

Saying, "It wouldn't require more knights, as long as you're willing to
put up with lower stats" is silly, as that's true *right now*. You
don't *need* full estate support, it's just that without it your stats drop.

Having to switch his estate back and forth for no other reason than to
make sure that the realm can get enough recruits and still line his
lord's pockets (because he won't spring for another knight dedicated to
drafting) *is* drudge work.

What you have to understand is that there are basically 2 types of
activities you can add for The Simple Knight:

1) Activities that have no benefit to the realm, which will basically be
ignored, or even forbidden
2) Activities that have a benefit to the realm, which will become
necessary, and ordered, and thus not more power to the Simple Knight,
but just more stuff for him to do because he's told to.

If you want to have more stuff to do, frankly, the only thing I can see
that can be fun, but not be ordered or taken out your hands by your
superiors is RP.
