And, bluntly, why should they? It can take time and effort to get there, why shouldn't they enjoy it? If others want similar position, they can rebel, they can find regions they have claims on and strongly enforce them via RP (which would catch the eye of any decent ruler), they can get an infiltrator friend to take out a lord in order to enforce their own claim on the region, they can protest whoever out and campaign for themselves or someone else, they can make valid and valuable contributions to realm strategies and the like, they can convince their Duke that maybe being an outright Dictator wouldn't be a bad thing and they'd be great as a Judge, they can change realm. It *shouldn't* be easy - slowly older players will lose interest in characters, delete, pause, step down of their own accord, etc, and opportunities will appear, but it should take a bit of effort to make the most of those opportunities.

This always seems to come down to this (generality of course)
1. those players that have been around awhile and gain the positions with their characters are not interested in letting the newer characters of another player into their "pie"
2. those players that have not been around as long without positions, complain that the "veteran" players won't let them into the positions of power.

The same ideas are tossed out there to "solve" the problem:
rebel
buy a title
have Infil attack
etc.

Yep, and the minuscule chance that most of those have of working leave a sour taste in the mouth of those that want the positions to rotate every so often. I've had each of my 3 non-adventurer turned noble characters in positions of power in the past two years and have stepped down several times to allow others a chance to "have a turn"...I'm not saying that to brag but merely to state that my character's development played out beyond those positions to different avenues.

As an example, Loren said the old guys eschew politics and look for a nice Dukeship...how is that eschew politics when a Duke is one of, if not the most powerful role a character can have?

The frequently mentioned methods of changing those in positions happen so rarely as to not really be practical. So many characters are "status quo" that rebellion in most mid to large size realms is nigh on to impossible most of the time. Can't buy a title unless you've already been around awhile and soaked up the gold from numerous realms. An Infil attack does not solve the problem for Ruler turnover and only takes the character out for a couple days. When he's healed, he'll just get appointed back into the same role unless you can somehow manage to take out the region lord, the duke and the Ruler all in the same turn...been there, tried that, doesn't work.

We really just need a way to allow for better turnover so different PLAYERS can have a character experience the power positions not simply recycle the same core group of characters within realms.
