Much of that is old, outdated "wisdom" that those very same old-timers 
cling to because it used to be true.

There is very little in the actual code that limits realm sizes. Much of 
the limit is that you can't organize a realm that big very well.

Prestige isn't any harder to gain for older characters, it simply 
follows the same diminishing-returns formula that many parts of the game 
follow: Once you have lots, it's harder to get more.

Which is very important, psychologically. For a newcomer, trying to 
struggle to close the gap between his 10 prestige and the ruler's 40 is 
a challenge. If the ruler had 400, he probably wouldn't even try.

Yes, this is totally one of the problems we have. Different from a 
real-world family, we know it's actually the same guy behind those 
characters. You wouldn't trust a brother or a son that much, he can 
always be stupid.
