If Tom did away with the inalienable rights today, I can almost guarantee you
that tomorrow there would be realms where some or all of the following things
happen.
* Each character would be assigned to a specific class based on their
activity, experience and skill.
* Characters in the knight/cavalier/hero class would be assigned specific unit
types to command in order to achieve "the optimal" distribution for the army.
Characters who spend time building their units would be ordered to abandon
their units and recruit a brand new one because the army is short on
infantry/archers/cavalry/etc.
* Orders would be posted at a specific time and players would be told that
they must log in between the that time and the turn change to collect their
orders.
* Characters would be told not to attend tournaments because they are needed
at home, or not to attend tournaments hosted by particular realms so those
realms wouldn't receive the entry fees.
None of these are things which can be solved, IMHO, by changes to the code.
Yet they are all things which would make the game less enjoyable for the
average player while giving the realm which implements them a definite
advantage at war.
