well..items from sages are highly dependent on luck. that's not counting 
  luck from looking for common items either.

defeating undead lords/alpha monsters don't always give unique either. 
I've killed a few and only got 1 portal stone.

that's not saying anything is good or bad, I'm just unlucky, that's all.
