No, I'm saying that I should be able to chat to other commoners in the
area, other peasants, other random people, to find out if anyone has
seen him, or to find out where he is likely to be. Even including
lesser nobles, I can't do that because at the moment, sitting in the
capital of the realm, there are 0 adventurers nearby, and 0 nobles nearby.
Are you really saying that I should spend *days* wandering around a
realm, searching for a noble? It's not even as if they stay still;
they're often moving around, fighting a war. Wild Goose Chase fits the
situation well, I think. And I don't see any reason to confront nobles
to ask them. If I'm trying to find where my boss has gone at work, I
don't ask the Chief Executive or Managing Director if they've seen him.
Nor do I wander aimlessly around the building, hoping I might find
him. I ask people at my own level - or lower - in the hope one of them
might be able to tell me where to look for him. That means asking
commoners - the vast majority of which are NPCs.
I as a player am far more in the dark about the realm I'm in than my
character would be. My character would talk to other peasants, have an
idea of where battles are taking place, when nobles were last in the
capital, and where they were headed, etc. I as a player know none of
this. All I'm asking for is me (player) to have a game mechanic to tell
me what I (character) would already know.
Maybe an alternative, if you want to make life tricky for me, but I am
allowed for it not to be completely impossible, is for me to get hold of
the information for realms and regions, but for it always to be two days
old? That would really be the most realistic and perhaps keep us both
happy? And I don't think it would be particularly hard to code.

James, I could have sworn you said you were going to ignore everything I
wrote to the discussion list from now on. Ah well.
I don't see the issue here anyway. So what if you prevent adventurers
from finding out this info? I'll just send a knight in instead.
