REAL tyrants weren't feared because they could send red letters.

They were feared because they could pull strings. So maybe the ruler 
can't kick out a noble, or take away his tax share. But if he's a tyrant 
worthy of the term, he damn sure can make those things happen to you. 
And THAT is real power, not having the button.
