When I first started doing a newspaper on the wiki two years ago, I used region
links to the IG pages. Almost immediately one of the wiki editors (I don't
remember which, it was a LONG time ago) told me I should link to the regional
pages on the wiki. I said that most of them didn't have wiki pages. So the editor
said: "Then make them." So I made wiki region pages for *every* region on
EC. I only put the name, a brief description of its location, and included the
region's IG map.
Besides, let's face it: Linking to a region's IG page is a PITA. Linking to the wiki
page is a snap. (Especially using my Reglink template. :p)
You mentioned that you were going to create a new way to link to the IG region
pages that would make it easier to do from the wiki, through a template. We
could create two templates: one for linking to the IG region page, and one for
linking to the wiki page. That way the writer could select which they want. I
often link to region pages so people can easily see where the region is. For 99%
of what I do, an IG page would work better than linking to the wiki page. But
linking to the IG page is a PITA. (You have to go back to the game, call up the
regions listing for the island, find the one you want, copy the link, then go back
and paste it into the wiki. With the exception of Dwilight, the region pages are
identified by a region number, and not the name.)
Perhaps there also needs to be a comprehensive attempt to expand the wiki
editing guidelines or best practices. The Style Guide page contains information
regarding how to name your pages, how to structure your content, subpages,
etc. Perhaps it should contain a list of things that should or should *not* have
pages made for them.
Then have one of the editors delete all the region subpages that have no
content on them beyond the IG information.
