I spent a lot of time as a priest, and found it was some of the
richest times my character had.  Granted, this was the Church of
Ibladesh and nobles were generous.  Turn it into RP, demand
"sacrifices" to demonstrate piousness, especially from rich dukes and
region lords, who should spend extravagantly to show off their wealth.

Thats what I did.
