It still is entirely anonymous except for the knight knowing which is obvious ;)

Or, s/he is just lazy, trying to subvert the region lord, politics
whatnot! Sending the enlarging gold to family etc.. The lord has no
way of knowing whether the knight enlarged the estate or not. The
knight can very well claim s/he did it
