Wrong, they were part of England and were treated as such under the
law. The British could have signed away all rights to land to the
French had they lost the French and Indian war and it would've been
French land subject to the French king. So really in BM terms they
came over conquered the lands from the Indian tribes, and later in
1776 there was a secession by the Duke of
Boston/NY/Philly/Charleston/Williamsburg which formed the
Confederation, which was a republic, and so it's stayed. Again all in
BM terms. Had the British colonized the lands here in BM terms you'd
be correct, but you're confusing the idea that colonize means the same
in BM terms as it does in the real world.
Now, to be fair, I can see how the colonists from a realm might want
to choose their form of government, except for one small detail.
Those colonies which actually were done like they are in BM without
fail have all retained the form of government of their creators,
especially in the medieval period. One need only look at the Kingdom
of Jerusalem that the crusaders founded to see a prime example of
this.

You do, rebel. But the ruler and those loyal to him/her have every
responsibility to defend the government system. Don't complain about
the system if you don't like how it works, it's probably not going to
change. Work with it. If you really cared this much about it you'd
simply not elect someone, let the realm descend to anarchy and then
hold a vote on a new ruler and they'd establish whatever promised. Of
course, one person voting for themselves could ruin the whole thing,
but that's a risk you'd have to take.
