But this sort of thing could be at least a guideline, so the average
player will know that it is better to only let your character know
what he can actually learn in some plausible way, and not everything
the player can put his hands on.

Guidelines help generating a new behavior, independently of rules. Can
we at least have a line somewhere stating that people should be
reasonable concerning what their characters know?

Because, if it is stated this clearly that "in case of doubt: if your
character got it, he knows it", even those average players that
usually wouldn't use such info, will start to, since everyone else is
going to. And then, if someday we figure out a way to stop such
behavior, it'll be way harder, since the whole game will be already
playing by this simple phrase.

What I ask, Tom, is that you simply say: I can't stop people that let
their characters know of private things they got in RPs, but I would
like to see people avoiding such behavior.

Or something. The way you replied to this thread did not make it
clear, actually, it seems that you incite people not to even take the
risk... I'll keep taking. And I'll keep telling whoever I know to take
it too, and to respect other people's private RPs. But your word does
carry some extra weight. :)
