Maybe you disagree with me, but you cannot seriously

Were you king etc. of the realm you're in?

If so you have a point.  If it's from another island, well, not so much I think.

Thing is, you asking him for land and payment, YOU are asking HIM, and
he's telling you 'I can only offer the most meager amounts to anyone'.
 You can't go around presuming Duke's insult you if they don't give
you 50 gold per week.  I just find it laughable to demand something
from a Duke as if you're entitled to 10% of his pay based on merely
existing.
