No commoner in a medieval society is a "free spirit". Actually, for all
practical means, he belongs to some noble.
How many nobles would really want their "belongings" wandering around the continent? The simple in game actions of adventurers convey the intent of "free spirit". It seems that the adventurers I've seen in game are RPd one of two ways. They are RPd as to be "illegitimate nobles" - dad was a little loose one night on the road to war and 9 months later out popped little Junior OR they are RPd as a member of a noble family that has been cast out. In either case, I think they would hold less ties to a region/realm than a normal noble with title would.
Perhaps adventurers should have "property of <some region>" as their
title when sending messages? Also have it available on their
character page?
That would, of course, entail setting regions for all existing
adventurers, but doing that as a random region in the realm they live
shouldn't be a problem.
And to bounce off the idea, maybe we can add things that the owner can
do to the adventurers that others aren't allowed. Perhaps their
beatings and captures never fail. Perhaps they can take unique items
from the adventurers at whim? Maybe the adventurer can be immune from
beatings/capture by anyone other than the owner while the owner is in
the region? Just throwing out ideas here.
Do we really want to kill off the adventurer class? How many people would play one if their region's lord could simply arrest them whenever they happened to be in the same region...especially if the adventurer isn't supposed to be a "free spirit"? I'm suggesting something to make the adventurer class more fun not more restrictive.
