I don't think it's an issue of locational reaction to the word - can you 
find a quote from a medival noble that said anything was crap without 
getting a rather shocked reaction? If not, that'll (probably) be why it was 
judged vulgar.

Okay, then the charge shouldn't be vulgarity but rather a break in role playing.  You can't punish some one for using words that wouldn't be around in the medival ages when I'm sure most of the stuff said in the game is completely out of contact with the historical period.
