And now it is time for me to de-lurk.
Having a character on Beluaterra that was recently deported, I think that early
on from the creation of my advy character, I didn't play it correctly. It
wasn't until a few weeks from deportation that I got a clue and figured out
what to do. Play the character as a character, not as a tool to figure out
game mechanics.
I wanted to see what happened if... What was the consequence of... I was
getting bored with it. I didn't RP the character enough, although I did give
it a little flavor.
My character was taken into prison a few times by the Monster forces. At that
point, I was willing to throw the towel in. I was getting discouraged on
Beluaterra (I have another 'normal' character there. Her realm has been
decimated). Invasions, no advancement, some decent RP, but not what I really
wanted. But I couldn't delete the advy character. Not fair to the other
players that I interacted with (part of my personal social contract). So, the
advy started to taunt my captors. Interaction of captors ensued. Death or
Deportation. Then, the advy escaped. He started to help out the local realm
with advy scouting reports. Still no RP. Then captured again. This time, the
Monsters initiated conversation. Advy followed up with more taunting and still
asking for death or deportation.
That character was finally deported to the EC. I'm starting the character
again (using past history) and hope to get more involved with the RP side of
it. It wasn't fun on Beluaterra (for me) because I didn't make it fun. I
blame no one but myself for that.
One gets out of it what one puts into it. I've made a very good friend and
some good acquaintances through BM. I've made progress as a game player and
more importantly, as a person because of them.
