Well the stages in Melhed go as follows:

    * Plebian (aka: Adventurer)
    * Civis (unaligned) noble
    * Vassel knight, something Someone who has an estate, thus owns land and
that means
      status. Nobles serve their lord, striving to replace him or become
      one themselves
    * Tribune - elected by a joint vote of the nobility and all plebians in
Agyr on election day. (Only nobles eligible to run.) Speaks on behalf of the
peasants in all things, but carries no vote.
    * Senator - lords rule regions, elected from any Vassel or Civis in the
realm by the Vassels and Civis.
    * Senator - Dukes rule duchies, A noble is only eligible for the title
of Duke if they hold land, but all vote for the nomination.
          Consuasor - Dukes also advise the Prime Minister giving them
access to all drafts of messages since their votes are worth a great deal
they get to keep track of the main speaker
    * Augur - Representative of the state religion on the senate
    * Senator or Prime Minister - rules the realm with the Senate

(note: All senators/augur vote to choose a course of
action, and recieve all messages, each senator has one vote)

There was talk of making each of the different titles (old titles now) have
a different number of votes, but there just aren't enough people to warrent
that kind of detail at this time.

Either way the ranks rather level off once you hold land, with all the
specail exceptions and benifits that a ruler would have given to each lord.
Crazy republics.
