It's not always stronger--not when an attempt to add your neighbour's  
stuff to yours might very well wind up with your stuff becoming your  
other neighbour's, the one you turned your back on.  Or, heck,  
becoming the neighbour's you tried to take it from, because he had  
big violent friends.
