Subject: Re: [Discuss] War Island Change

[Matthew Gagnon] The main problem is that a
few players on the island control most of the power, and they don't want to lose
it, so they are actually actively trying NOT to destabalize the realm and fight
another.

On
top of that, as I said, people seem to be playing the island like it is
an XBox 360 game or something, and the whole point is to "win" the island,
so they entangle themselves in all this political crap - treaties,
negotiations... I was just told to change the name of my unit so as to "not
offend" an enemy realm and jeapordize the negotiations with that
realm.

The
entire thing is absurd, and completely not fun anymore. The
same 3-4 people hold everything up and have made the island into a very
boring place where only light skirmish battles are ever
fought.

Sure, making it only two realms would work, but its so
much more interesting RP wise to have 4-5-6-7 realms. If we could find a
way to simply make diplomacy impossible that would be the best way, that way
these conservative obstructionist players who are holding EVERYTHING up can't
stop wars being fought on the war island.

It
really is absurd. Its been well over two months since my unit
actually faced a real battle... its probably been even longer than that
actually. I understand some down time, but this is just
outrageous.

Of course they don't want to lose it. If you were a ruler, modern version being a prime minister or president. Would you want to just drop your power so you fight the enemy. Would George Bush suddenly tell all his political friends that he wanted war because he thought it was unfair Iraq is being picked on and he wants to make sure America doesn't win the war? OF COURSE CHARACTERS ARE GOING TO WANT TO WIN.Unless the player wants their char to be a weirdo who is completely selfless and has strange tendencies to do weird things. It is completely IC to make your character want power. It is also perfect IC sense to want to conquer the island. Just because they do it at a smart level it does not make it OOC powergaming. The point of battlemaster is to play your character as the character would really be. It is just as wrong to try and win the game by illogical character decisions then LOSE because your character has not acted IC. You are simply asking for the opposite of trying to win OOC. You're asking people to make their characters say "You know what? I don't want our realm to win. Let's make a stupid decision because on the characater page it said we're on a war island to just fight everyone at once.". If you want to play your character as intelligent. Then he will take the smarter approach on winning. Which means less war. This has nothing to do with players wanting to win.To make the war islands better I think penalties need to be enforced if their is no battle for a few turns. As someone said (apologies, I can't remember who), we could say the peasants have bloodlust.
