[Discuss] Another Take on Religion

I still have to disagree. Being *in* a religion doesn't make you
devoted to it, or interested in it, or even like it. You're just there,
and if it doesn't interest you it's not helpful to the religion at all.
Putting people in a religion just for the sake of putting people in a
religion isn't going to make it more popular nor is it going to fix any
of the problems that have been brought up.

Also keep in mind when we create our characters they are not being
born, they're just starting a career (pretty much). They've been around
for a while, they likely already have personalities (most people do by
the time they're twenty). So like I said they could get stuck in a
religion that makes zero sense for them to be in or to have supposedly
been in their whole lives. And what would be the point of joining a
religion just to be a pain in the arse (someone suggested this was a
good idea a few posts back)? Religion is not about winning, at least it
shouldn't be, so joining a religion just to sabotage it is just sad.
Find a religion you like and join it instead of covertly supporting
them by sabotaging someone else from the inside.

Familiy religions also seems iffy. Take this for example: You've got
your family in RegionA, #1son serves there. #2son goes off to distant
continent, finds a nice religion there and joins it. Family back should
automatically convert to this religion why? (this is more applicable to
non-new players who are already in religions). Or: Family in RegionA,
#1son serves there and is in nice religion along with (presumably) the
family that lives there. #2son runs off to distant continent to get
away from family because he hates it all (typical teenager) and he
finds a religion he likes better on distant continent, he can't join
it? Or his whole family from which he is estranged and hasn't spoken
with in 5 years automatically converts? Either way, I can't support
that. Also, people complain high and low about players playing their
family members all the same way. If they all have to be in one religion
it's not going to help, especially if they're all operating on the same
moral code, the same set of values, the same way of thought. I much
prefer putting my characters in religions that suit them, not just
because there's this one religion I think should take over the world.

I'm all for religions getting more power and what not but I don't want
this to become ReligionMaster.
