With one or two weeks of gameplay I hardly knew the difference between
each class and their ingame function, let alone know any priests, tell
you what about religions...
I think at least the first character should be able to choose between
paganism and the main religions found in his home region. Then, after
he picked the "family faith", each character created can choose the
family faith or paganism. I find it important to be able to have
family members choosing paganism, for there can always be the rebel
son, and such.
Having the option would probably have a few pluses, I believe:
1. People interested in RP would take their time to read the wiki
about the religions they can choose from, thus already adding interest
to it in the early stages of the game, which I feel doesn't happen as
of now. It would also give a greater importance to the religion's
background on the wiki or even ingame if the page is accessible in the
choice's page.
2. People not interested in religions could simply play a pagan or
minor religious family. Having a pagan family could eventually have a
small downside for the family members, specially if prestige among
commoners (Repute?) is implemented.
3. Religions that have families following them could have a bonus in
the "founding a successful religion" fame point, or something other.
4. Sometimes small religions that have a few followers in some regions
can be pleasantly surprised to see a family join their faith, thus
increasing the religion's prestige, and possibly causing a small
increase of the faith in the region. As this happens prior to people
actually joining the game, would not be very abusable.
A downside to it is that religions would start 2 cruzades: 1.To
eliminate other faiths from regions in which they have majority, and
2. To go around the world trying to have their faith in the most
regions.
Which can possibly be fixed by using percentages. I don't know how it
currently works, for faith in regions, so I'm not getting into the
matter.
Maybe there could be an option of changing the family faith
eventually, at a hard expense to every character of the family, likely
in prestige points, so it won't be taken lightly, but still possible.
