I'm not sure I agree. I know that at least in ASI the major religion
influences the way people act almost as much as their sense of honor
does. There have been seriously large arguments over someone who
wasn't acting in accordance with the religion. The religion has
spread to neighboring Falasan, and shortly will be 'heading' a new
Theocracy in Riverholm.
It's given players in ASI a sense of manifest destiny to retake former
lands, and to protect those that they gain, whilst explaining how and
why the other side is evil incarnate in some cases (Eston for freeing
their god responsible for evil from his prison).
I think it by and large it has a great deal to do with the culture
within the realms themselves as it relates to RP, than a psi block in
their ability to understand the importance of religion.
I personally don't like that priests are tied to their realm by the
players, and would rather they were a 'realm' unto themselves, but
that is how things go right now. So it's up to the political
leadership within the Church to reach out and try to convince local
lords and so on about their faith.
