True enough, Timothy.
I got carried away a bit too far on the matter, then. It doesn't take
the whole objective of my previous statement, though, and I want to
develop it further.
If peasants were treated like belongings, or animals, would fit more
in the "ignoring" attitude I mentioned. Probably not in the "defending
and friendly" attitude. And again, probably not in the "I'm glad it is
forbidden for nobles to arrest peasants without just cause" attitude.
There was no such thing as human rights, at least. You could do
justice as you wanted if you were in courts, but would also likely
face the consequences of the spoiled nobles who'd feel outraged by the
peasant winning the cause.
Not necessarily all of them. But some. I dare say, many. Specially
because if a noble can lose the dispute once, any other noble can lose
it any other time. Now, I suppose nobles would even be entertained to
see a fellow (and unliked) noble losing a cause that was dishonorable
to start with.
Maybe we just have too many nobles all for human rights, when we
should actually have them caring less. Anyways, if people can at least
make their minds thinking of game balance, and have some realms tend
to one side or the other... Say one realm rules its peasants by fear,
another rules them by grace... Or even within each region. It's a
concept gotten from Stronghold game, and I really appreciated it. Even
if we can't have it through game mechanics, to at least think of it,
discuss it ooc and set a spirit... and maybe have one or two of your
characters follow a not so friendly attitude, could be nice.
